Status Report: Stepping back
Writing a status report is a lot more fun when I have a lot of progress to report. A month ago I was feeling good about the progress I was making on my game project. Unfortunately, I have lost my motivation for the project and have decided to take a break from it.
After coming back from a nice relaxing vacation, I started working on the game again. I made a lot of progress on planning out gameplay and levels. I also started working on a Kickstarter pitch, but then I started reading about how to run a successful Kickstarter campaign. Almost everything I read said that I need to have an established audience to have a successful campaign. I don't have an established audience, and I have been struggling with marketing. Social media didn't do much for me, and I have since canceled my Twitter account. I don't want to have to force the marketing, so It doesn't make sense to try to run a Kickstarter campaign right now.
I am now looking for something else to work on, but I have several projects to work on while I figure that out. These are mostly home projects that I have been meaning to get to for a while, but I also want to open-source some of the work I did on my Python editor and make a dedicated website for it.
My wife has been having some health issues that have required more of my time. This has made it harder to get work done, but I am also glad that I have the flexibility right now to focus on what my family needs.
